Here’s some of my favorite bridal photographs from Ashleigh’s bridal session at Legare Waring House. Legare Waring House is probably my favorite venue after seeing so many great places. I know a lot of brides want originality but this place can’t be beat. If you’re ever in the area be sure to go check it out.

Chinqua Penn Plantation Wedding

Here’s Julie & Wayne who were married at the historic Chinqua Penn Plantation in North Carolina. Wayne is the only guy ever to call a timeout during an engagement session to grab a beer. They lived in Alabama when I met them and have recently moved to Tennessee. I’ve been to Tennessee twice in the last month and wished I had time to stop and see them.

Julie actually bought me a custom hanger after I met them in Charleston for their engagement session. One of the few things I complain about at weddings is the dress hangers people use. It’s usually one detail that is overlooked. The hanger she bought me ended up only being able to support a small amount of weight, though, so I never got to use it.

Here is Wayne’s dad who helped restore the 54 Chevy Bel Air for the wedding. You may notice the car is wet too. We actually ended up battling the rain during a portion of the wedding. A battle we won, too!

That’s Julie’s brother about to walk her down the aisle. Her father passed away 6+ years ago but was able to give the car to Julie on her 16th birthday.

Charleston Bridal Part Deux

Here’s part two of Laura’s bridal. There could be a part three and four but I’ll spare everyone. I’ve been traveling a lot lately but I’ve been in Columbia since Tuesday. I’ve spent most of my time this week behind the computer editing. My fridge has been empty so I pretty much only leave the house to go eat(exciting right!?!?). Earlier today I went to the gas station and bought some gummy bears and a snickers bar. So pretty normal, right? Yes, of course! Well later in the day I go get dinner. I then go by the same gas station because I STILL have that sweet craving. I get out of the car and I see the same cashier working that was there earlier in the day. I was pretty embarrassed so I just got back in the car and took myself straight home.

That’s me. I’ve been at super formal weddings and have been busted by the catering company for eating the cake when professionals like me have a designated area with designated food. In that situation you just act dumb and drool like you didn’t know any better. I skipped the cake this past weekend and had some banana pudding from Southern Way Catering. It was pretty amazing!

Charleston Bridal

This is Laura and she looks pretty amazing in her Charleston Bridal session. I had a ton of fun during her bridal meeting her family who came down from Hickory, NC. Her parents are incredibly nice people. I did feel sorry for them though being New York Jet fans and all. They should have a really fun time this fall on the Tebow train.

This is only a few of the photos. I’ll put the rest up soon. Hope everyone is enjoying this 90 degree weather. 90 degree weather in May is a little too soon for this SC Wedding Photographer!

I wanted to share with everyone my ‘cloffice’ from back in 2006. A cloffice is an office + closet. I ran into the Jean Guichard lighthouse photo at someone’s house the other day and made me think of it. Not how I really started out on a 15 inch monitor but I guess that was the standard back then.

Ashleigh & Chris to Wed in America’s Sexiest City — Charleston SC

This is Ashleigh and Chris. Their wedding is at Legare Waring House in Charleston, SC. It’s a pretty amazing place to get married. Charleston is a very unique place that really can’t be matched to anywhere I have ever been. There’s something about the style and history that can’t be replicated(sorry Savannah). It was also named ‘America’s sexiest city’ in 2011. I would definitely agree.

Chris really intrigues me. He joined the military to follow his passion for music. There is an unwritten bond among us artists chasing our dreams. He’s serving his country while following his dream which is — amazing.

Ashleigh likes to drink coffee. I actually gave her all my Starbuck’s giftcards. If anybody wants to meet for coffee anytime soon it’s not on me! I was kinda hoping Ashleigh could help me get rid of my southern accent since she pretty much has a Bio Physics Molecular Proton degree in speech.

Really beautiful diamond! Wonder how many old lady purses Chris had to steal….

I have officially retired from putting my logo on every image I put on my blog. I think I’ve finally come to the conclusion that if someone likes a photo they can pretty much ask who took it. Meanwhile on the west coast, I’m sure a newbie photographer with no portfolio is excited by this.

I’m not sure what it is with this photo but it makes me think of Top Gun.

We ended up in a town called Dillon, South Carolina. I used to love that show ‘Friday Night Lights’ that was based in the fictional town of Dillon. Buddy Garrity is the best character ever. Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can’t lose!

I love shooting in old towns. There’s usually some cool spots you can find like the ‘coke’ signs. It’s sad though because these places are disappearing rather quickly. A lot of the places I have photographed in the past are now torn down or have been painted. I’m pretty sure when I’m 80 years old some photographer is going to be shooting engagements in old Walmart parking lots and I’m going to be busy complaining about it in the nursing home.

Chris has a ring on his left hand which has confused my brain during this whole editing process.

I laughed while we photographed this and just apologized to Chris for making him go through with it. People flip out over pics like this though. Kind of like how people flip out about babies on facebook. I don’t know, maybe babies are 2nd on the list behind ‘motivational posters’ on Facebook it seems these days. I’m pretty sure I just lost like 5 fans because they posted ‘motivational posters’ on facebook this morning.

I’m not sure if I should be thankful that 1/3 of the bulbs were burning or maybe it would have been better if they were all burnt out.

We tried to go to the top of the Sombrero Hat but they didn’t take debit cards. Who carries cash anymore? I’m pretty sure I could have convinced the lady to let us go to the top but I figured the photo opportunities up there would be limited.

I fulfilled one of my passions in life by taking a few engagement photos at South of the Border. I’m pretty sure it was around a year ago I made this is a goal in life. On this day I completed that goal. Making stuff happen! Yeah! My next goal for an engagement is a hot air balloon ride. Let’s make it happen people!

I was pretty disappointed I didn’t get to try them all!

Whitney’s Vera Wang Wedding Dress

Back in the fall I had the privilege of photographing Whitney’s bridal pictures. The bridal session went absolutely amazing! Whitney was a little nervous but after a snapping a few pics to break the ice we were able to get some timeless images. She even picked my favorite for her bridal portrait which is a little further in the post.

You would think this girl has modeled before with that pose.

She even designed her own bouquet out of antique brooches. She’s quite a talented graphic designer and created her own wedding invitations, as well, which was one step past awesome!

This next pic was definitely my favorite! The one underneath was amazing, also.

I really enjoy shooting bridal sessions and getting to know the bride and her family better. I enjoy making the bride the center of attention and more comfortable in front of the camera. Finding the perfect locations is always a lot of fun and a big part in the bridal session process.

We actually took these shots at an area where they are developing/building a housing community. I go by the place all time when I run at the dam out in Lexington, SC. It’s probably one of my favorite places to run. Here’s a picture I took with my iPhone one day at sunset during one of those runs.

Tim & Falisha Engagement Session

This guy runs for mayor. Loses by a slight margin. To relieve some stress takes an exotic trip to get away from it all. Then meets the girl of his dreams. That’s pretty much how I arrived right here with this blog post.

I have to give kudos to Tim for wearing the bow tie. He definitely gets the ‘sharpest dressed’ award for an engagement session. I would try wearing one to their wedding but i’m not sure I could pull it off. I actually just had a flash back. I think the last time I wore a bow tie was my aunt’s wedding when I was around 5-6 years old. It’s funny the things you remember. I was mesmerized by the carved watermelon and other fruits. I can still taste the sweetness of that watermelon. My aunt and uncle actually lost their wedding photos due to a house fire a while back. I asked my aunt if she could buy those photos back for 10x the amount she paid for them would she? She gave me a very quick ‘yes without a doubt’. It’s funny how we put even more value on something after we’ve lost it.

Tim gives me an incredibly hard time about being a wedding photographer. He thinks I have it made. He tried to imitate me by saying, ‘hey man…i’m just sitting on the couch with a diet coke watching some tv…I think I might go for a jog later’. He acts like I work for the state of South Carolina or something(that was for you Tim).

I’m looking forward to working with Shannon from Shannon Baker Wedding and Events. She was with Falisha the first time we met and drilled me with about 50 million questions. That really shows she is going to be clutch on the wedding day where I can completely focus on photography.

I just signed up for pinterest! I’m really not sure what’s it all about yet but I’m officially on the train! If you see something you like please follow me or pin me! I’m probably going to have to go shoot some guns today. Get my ‘man card’ back.

Carly & Caleb Lincolnton GA Wedding

Check out Carly and Caleb’s wedding. I’m not sure if I mentioned in the bridal photos that I was attacked by a goose while shooting. Lost three fingers in the accident! Carly informed me that Mr. Goose was eaten by a coyote a while back. I really didn’t care too much for the goose at the time but now I do feel a little sorry for the animal. All jokes aside, Carly had a beautiful wedding. I really enjoyed getting to know their families. They were incredible people that put on a really nice wedding. It was definitely the biggest wedding I’ve ever shot. They filled up all the seats and there was still about 200 people waiting in line. The wedding had a little of everything including a classic truck. I’m always a sucker for vintage cars!

So this blog entry has been sitting in my draft folder for a while now. I was actually going to blog about what I had been up to recently but it never quite happened. This shot was of me camping on my grandfather’s property during the fall of last year. I was actually photographing the stars when i got this by accident. I never really slept much that night. I just kept thinking about my grandfather Ernest and his brother Hasty farming that land year after year while raising my mother and all her sisters. About two weeks ago I had a canvas printed of my grandfather’s tractor that I took several years ago as I was getting into photography. Just figured I’d share….

Boone Hall Plantation SC Wedding

Here’s a wedding from the spring from the historic Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, SC. You might remember Megan & Breck from their engagement or maybe her bridal session. These guys are actually moving to Texas soon, which is really a bummer. I really enjoyed getting to know them and everyone that I have met through them. Breck also has some of the coolest man toys on the planet. I expect a big going away party and an invitation!
